The nation has seen a rise in powerful opioid prescriptions to treat chronic, non-cancer pain, such as back pain or osteoarthritis. Although many people find relief from these medications, the safety risks of opioid misuse and abuse are present. As a result, more people are motivated to get involved and do their part to safeguard their loved ones.

In September 2017, the Shared Future Coalition launched Take Meds Seriously Oregon, a media campaign that addresses safe disposal, safe storage and safe use of prescription drugs. To date, 30 community partners ranging from healthcare, to law enforcement, to private businesses are doing their part to share safety messaging. The campaign is designed to be shared by any interested entity or community partner. The dynamic mix of media materials includes Facebook posts, video and radio PSA’s, newsletters, web links, posters, and rack cards; all designed for mass distribution throughout Oregon. With success from our initial campaign launch as well as increased funds, we have now placed more emphasis on saturating Central Oregon with multi-theme Rx drug messaging through Facebook and Google ads, cinema ads, multiple billboard spots, newspaper ads, posters, rack cards and cable television ads throughout Deschutes, Crook and Jefferson counties. We are hoping this campaign direction will help inform our neighbors of the many resources Take Meds Seriously Oregon has to offer.
