Vanessa is the Region 4 Transportation Safety Program Coordinator with the Oregon Department of Transportation in Bend. She serves the middle third of Oregon from The Dalles to Klamath Falls, assisting the communities in her region with access to federal grants, safety programing and messaging, and serving as a liaison between the Transportation Safety Division and local agencies. Working with non-profit organizations, county and city departments, community groups and schools, her role is to foster local partnerships to help identify transportation related safety issues and aid in utilization of countermeasures to try to reduce high injury and fatal crash rates. She has worked for ODOT in Bend for the last 7 years. Prior to her work in transportation, Vanessa worked in both a traditional and an online high school as a social studies instructor. She eventually became a course developer and instructor auditor while working in Arizona for a total of 7 years in education. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Geography and completed her graduate work in Educational Leadership at the University of Oregon. Having grown up in Central Oregon, she is happy to be back home in the high desert and spends her free time out rock hounding in the Ochocos whenever possible.
